Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant Cream in Lavender

Anyone who has ventured into the world of natural deodorants knows that it's entirely based on trial and error, and it takes time. A very long time. I know that I have a sensitivity to baking soda but am determined to find a deodorant that contains it without irritating my pits, smells nice, and is easily available in Canada. With the glowing reviews that Meow Meow Tweet received, I decided to buy a jar from Well.ca.

Meow Meow Tweet was created by Tara and Jeff in Brooklyn, NY. Each product is hand crafted in small batches using a variety of delicious organic ingredients and love. It is entirely vegan as well as environmentally friendly through it's limited plastic content and biodegradable labels. To read more about MMT, click here.

Description: Our completely natural underarm cream is a simple recipe that is safe, effective and will leave you smelling fresh all day. Organic coconut oil combined with baking soda is antibacterial with a sweet and pleasing aroma. Arrowroot powder and clay will help to keep you dry. To use, gently rub a dime-sized amount into each armpit with your fingertips (don't push hard, those pits are sensitive!).

I adore the packaging, the fun label design and colours and glass jar. Although, glass is never travel friendly in my books. That being said, the texture is so creamy that it would be easy to scoop some into a small container for travelling. The scent is lovely! I love the coconut lavender aroma that hits my nose as soon I open the jar, and how well it lasts throughout most of the day. This deodorant does contain baking soda but only irritates my underarms a little and only in one area, the crease. Sounds sexy doesn't it? Basically the fold, if that makes any sense. It's chock full of nourishing ingredients like organic coconut oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter. It keeps me stink free almost all day, however, towards the evening I can definitely smell BO shining through. On a super hot or active day, I need to reapply mid-day. It works the best when applied to a freshly washed underarm and the irritation is even less when I apply a bit of the NBW Healing Balm or alternate with a baking soda free (Aubrey Men's) deo. Also, I want to note that a little goes a very long way. I've had this jar for 2+ months and haven't even used half of it. Of all the cream deodorants that I have tried, this one has been my favourite because of the fact that it doesn't irritate my underarms as much as others.

Retails for $15.99 CDN for 68 g. Can be purchased through Meow Meow Tweet, Well.ca, and any of these retailers.

Dr. Bronner's Shikakai Soap in Lavender Review

I love Dr. Bronner's castile soaps and when I won this little gem from a Noah's facebook contest, along with a Dr. Bronner's bar soap, I was over the moon excited! Up until I won this, I was using Bath & Body Works antibacterial hand soap. I know *hangs head in shame*, naughty girl!  I was actually using that and the Bronner's castile liquid soap, depended on what was nearest to me really. I'm in love, love, loveee!

Description: Certified by the same National Organic Program that certifies food our pump soaps are smooth and luxurious with no synthetic detergents or preservatives. Organic Shikakai comes from the seed pods of the small South Asian tree Acadia Concinna and has been used for millennia in India as a gentle conditioning cleanser for both skin and hair. We extract the Shikakai in organic sugar and grape juice and combine with Dr. Bronner's unsurpassed castile soap base for rich emollient lather and moisturizing after feel.

This hand soap is as expected being a Dr. Bronner's product, awesome! The soap comes in a purple (for lavender, get it? *winks*) plastic bottle with the fun to read label. It's a pretty runny formula, but lathers well and smells beautiful. For the record, my boyfriend is all about the BBW scented hand soaps, but really enjoys using this one and enjoys the scent. It's not an overpowering or overwhelming lavender, but it's a definite lavender. Lavender, lavender, lavender, lavender, how many times can I say that in a sentence? It leaves my hands sooooo soft, clean and smelling like lavender. I couldn't figure out how to avoid using that word again. The only thing that I don't like about this soap, is that it leaves an oily film in my sink which means I have to clean it every couple of days instead of weekly. I love having a clean bathroom but hate actually cleaning it, anyone else feel the same? I would still definitely repurchase though.

Retails on the Dr. Bronner's website for $9.99 USD for 12 oz or $16.99 USD for 24 oz. I'm sure prices will vary depending on where you purchase it. This soap comes in 5 scents; Lavender, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Unscented & Lemongrass Lime.

Which scent would you (or have you) tried?

Ingredients: Organic White Grape Juice, Organic Sucrose*, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Shikakai Powder, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Lavender Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

Badger Highland Mint & Sleep Balm Review

Marcella from Naturally Marcy sent me these lovely Badger balms in our swap. She has introduced and gotten me addicted to Badger and now I must try everything of theirs! Ugh, thanks Marcella...

Description Highland Mint:  Delightfully portable & refreshing hydration for lips and body. These little tins are like your best friends - you can take them anywhere, and they'll never let you down! Perfect in a pinch for cuticles or elbows, or anywhere dry skin patches may appear. And of course, they keep your healthy lips smiling!

Description Sleep Balm: A dreamy night balm rich with precious oils to calm, encourage, cheer and relax poetic Badgers and other restless wanderers. Badger Sleep Balm doesn't make you sleepy: the sophisticated blend of essential oils helps quiet your thoughts and clear your mind, then you fall asleep naturally. Rosemary is the traditional herb for clear thinking, confidence, and memory. Bergamot is mentally uplifting, and Ginger is strengthening and confidence-inducing. Balsam Fir is refreshing, like a walk in the woods, while Lavender is the traditional sleep herb: fresh and relaxing. This balm is perfect for those nights when you can't seem to stop the mind chatter!

The Good:
  • portable tin, take it anywhere!
  • both smell delicious
  • affordable
  • clean & simple ingredients
  • hydrating
  • soaks into the skin
  • not greasy

The Bad:
  • nothing
Verdict: These balms are absolutely fantastic and I have no idea why I never tried them before. I keep the mint one in my bathroom and the sleepy one by my bed to apply on elbows, knees, hands and lips. Both are incredibly hydrating and my skin just drinks them right up. I'm not sure if the Sleep Balm actually aids in falling asleep because I've been sleeping like a champ since starting school but it smells SOOOO good. The scent is light, beautiful and soothing that I sometimes open the tin just to smell it. Funny enough, Marcella told me she does that and I laughed at her....now I'm doing it! Their Cocoa Butter Lip Balms are definitely preferred for use on my lips but these tinned balms are great for the body. I highly recommend trying them out, if you haven't already, and I will be purchasing them once I use these up...or if I happen to be at a store that has them lol.

Highland Mint retails for $3.99 USD for 0.75oz and Sleep Balm retails for $5.99 USD for 0.75oz or $9.99 USD for 2oz.

What's your favourite Badger product?

Essencia Lavender Floral Water Review

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been posting much this last week, I've been so busy with school. Posts might be few and far between this month but I will do my best to at least get 1 - 2 a week up.

Now for the purpose of this post, the review!

My all time favourite lavender water, and floral waters in general, are the ones from Pretty. They're lightly scented, hydrating and wonderful. My only issue with them is the price, approx. $16 CAN for 90 ml can get expensive if used daily. My mom had picked up the Essencia floral water to use as a toner, but passed it over to me for a couple of reasons.

Description:  Adapted to all skin types, lavender’s antiseptic, cleansing, skin healing and softening action fights imperfections. Effective against burns and skin disorders and acne. Relieves insect bites and stings, and gives new life to tired limp hair.

The Good:
  • good value for money
  • reusable glass bottle
  • pure, no alcohol or fillers
  • great for setting makeup
The Bad:
  • smells awful
  • too heavy to travel with, sometimes even to hold
  • not a fine mist
  • not hydrating
Verdict: My mom originally passed this on to me because she couldn't stand the smell. I honestly cannot even describe it using my weird references. The bottle is great because you can reuse and/or recycle it but I found the odd shape and weight uncomfortable to use. I had a hard time holding it and misting it with one hand, even when it came down to the last few uses. The price point is fantastic at under $15 CAN for 180ml but it fell regardless. I used it to remove excess cleanser, oil and makeup as well as set mineral makeup and while it did the job, it wasn't as hydrating as other lavender waters that I've used. This is the first floral water from Essencia that I have tried but can tell you that I won't repurchase or try a different one.

Retails for approx. $15 CAN for 180ml. Can be purchased at most health food stores.

Have you tried any of Essencia's floral waters?
