Review: Add a Luminous Glow with Consonant The Perfect Sunscreen SPF 30

With Summer officially here and the sun shining, most days, I want to protect my skin. And while sunscreen should be worn during all seasons, of course there's more emphasis put during the warmer months. Finding the perfect sunscreen to wear on it's own or under makeup can be pretty challenging, and when I received Consonant's "The Perfect Sunscreen", I was beyond excited to see if it lives up to its big claim. All companies claim their products are the best, but Consonant actually named it the perfect sunscreen. Quite daring Consonant, quite daring.

Description: Hydrating SPF 30 protection for prolonged sun exposure. The Perfect Sunscreen is unlike other 100% natural sunscreens as it is a smooth, non-greasy formula that leaves no white residue. It delivers optimal SPF 30 protection using uniquely micronized (non-nano particle) Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide minerals to block the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays. The newly developed formula has light, hydrating benefits with aloe vera, grape seed and rice bran oil, and evens skin tone with a touch of natural mica tint.  Like all Consonant Skincare products, this product is fragrance free, containing no perfume or even essential oils which can play havoc with your skin, especially in the sun! The Perfect Sunscreen is ideal for days when you're going to be out in the sun for prolonged periods. It is water resistant, but we recommend re-applying after swimming or doing water sports.

I friggen love this stuff!! The bottle is so light, perfect for travelling with, and the pump makes it easy to dispense product and avoid spillage. My only issue with the pump is, which we all already know, you can never get every last drop of product out. The sunscreen itself is beautiful. It's moisturizing, easy to blend, non-whitening, not greasy, glow enhancing, and hasn't broken me out at all. It doesn't matter how much or little I apply, it always applies beautifully. There is no scent, not even that nauseating unscented scent. The lotion-like texture makes it ideal for all skin types because it works well over a moisturizer or as a moisturizer. Also, the tint is fantastic. I don't think it would matter what skin tone you have because it blends to give you a luminous glow. Who doesn't love a fresh, glowy face? I mean really though. Oddly enough, I see slight shimmer on my hands after applying it but never on my face. The tint, and texture, create the perfect base for makeup. I literally sometimes just apply this SPF, add a little concealer, set with my Alima Pure, and my base is done. If I want more coverage, I'll mix in my Alima Pure with the Consonant SPF and buff into the skin for a flawless complexion. It's also SPF 30, which is what I prefer to wear on my face daily. I cannot say enough good things about this sunscreen and it's now my favourite facial SPF. I didn't think anything would beat my love for Devita! Seems too good to be true, doesn't it? The bad news is that it's expensive. At $45 CAN for 50ml, it's not quite the affordable replacement for my $35/75ml Devita. Still, I love it. The fact that it doubles as a tinted moisturizer and can be made into a foundation seals the deal for me. It really is The Perfect Sunscreen and I will definitely be purchasing once I run out.

Retails for $45 CAN for 50ml. Can be purchased through Consonant and other retailers across Canada. Click here to find the one closest to you.

June 2013 Empties!

Woohoo, time for my favourite post to do and read.  I hate hoarding trash, so it feels incredible to toss these in the bin! As usual, I finished a bunch of things. Please note that these are products that I've been working on for a little while and not just products I started and finished in the month of June.

Samples

Sibu Beauty Sea Buckthorn Exfoliating Scrub - My skin felt softer but nothing special. I won't be picking up the full size.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser - This stuff was nice, I've tried a few samples of it before and enjoyed them all. However, I don't think it's out of this world amazing and therefore I'm not going to purchase the full size.

Dr. Hauschka Hydrating Mask - While this brand doesn't tickle my fancy, this mask wasn't horrible. It didn't irritate my skin, left it hydrated, and surprisingly wasn't super scented. Still, won't be purchasing the full size.

Erbaviva SPF 30 - I applied this little packet all over my face, arms and chest before a bike ride. I was impressed by how nicely it went on, blended, and smelled (like lavender). I was not impressed when I started sweating and noticed it dripping off my skin. How does that even happen? It was gross, I had white droplets falling from my skin and it was starting to ball up. Won't be purchasing a full size.

Skin Care

Earthpaste in Peppermint - review here - I love this stuff and the flavour is perfect for me. It leaves my teeth and mouth feeling super fresh and clean. Will definitely repurchase.

Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths - review here - These were really refreshing and great at removing most of my makeup. I also enjoyed these on days that I didn't wear makeup and just wanted to quickly cleanse. These were the only wipes that I've ever used that didn't irritate my skin. Still, I'm not a huge fan of cleansing cloths. If I were to repurchase, it would be the individually wrapped cloths for travelling.

Pangea Organics Fresh Rosemary with Sweet Orange Toner - no review - I may or may not do a full review of this product. I absolutely love their Italian Green Mandarin with Sweet Lime toner and prefer it to this one. It was hydrating and soothing, but I didn't find it as refreshing. I used it to set my makeup and in the morning before moisturizer. I love the spritz bottle on these, it's such a beautiful fine mist. I won't be purchasing this particular one again.

Mary Ginseng Facial Scrub Cream - review here -  Fantastic, fantastic scrub. I love the little crystals because it doesn't feel like your exfoliating but your skin is left so soft. In the colder months, my skin was definitely a little dry after using it. This tube lasted me almost a whole year! Well worth the month and I will repurchase at some point. I'd like to try something different now.

DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer SPF 30 - review here - I have maybe one or two more uses left, but thought I'd throw it in this empties anyway. I love this facial sunscreen so much! The texture is one that can't be beat, so far anyway, and it's a great base for makeup. Sadly, some of the formulas/textures are different now and if I can't find one like what I have, then I won't be repurchasing.

Hair/Body Care

Oneka Balancing Citrus Shampoo - hauled it but never did a review, I swear I thought I did - I really enjoyed this Canadian made shampoo. The ingredients were fab, it lathered well, smelled like citrus and left my hair soft. My only issue, was that with continued use, my hair felt a little greasy. I wouldn't repurchase.

Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo - review here - LOVE this stuff! It's great to deep clean your hair and scalp and lathers really well. I liked it because it actually removed oil treatments from my hair. I've gone through two bottles of it and will likely repurchase at some point.

Hugo & Deborah Naturals Vanilla Peppermint Soap (little blob in front of KMF shampoo) - review here - It's no secret that these are my favourite soaps ever, but the scent of this one is to die for. It was sweet and fresh and clean and invigorating. I adored it and will be picking up more next holiday season (since it's a holiday scent)!

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil - review here - My goodness, I'm so in love with this body oil. If I start expressing my love for it, I won't stop. I already repurchased.

Weleda Skin Food - review here - Everyone knows about how fantastic this cream is. It's super hydrating and I love keeping it in my bag for when any part of me need moisturizing. I'm currently keeping their Calendula Face Cream in my bag because I just find it more soothing. I'm sure I'll repurchase at some point.

Makeup

MarieNatie Lip Gloss in Nearly Wild - review here - This was a great lip gloss and even though I was disappointed with the colour payoff, at first, I ended up adoring the beautiful sheen that it gave my lips. This worked fantastic on it's own and most definitely worked fantastic over lipstick. Already purchased a different shade.

Zuzu Luxe Mascara in Onyx - review here - This was my second tube and I really enjoy this mascara. I love the brush and the formula (once it dries out a bit). It's super expensive in Canada, like $30, so I've tried to look for a more affordable option. So far the Physicians Formula Fake Out mascara is a reasonable priced alternative. I'm sure I'll repurchase at some point, just not right now.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder Mini - no review - I've had this mini sample for like two years now. I loved it for setting my under eye concealer and finishing my entire makeup look. I'm using something else now, so I won't be purchasing the full size.

Cheeky Cosmetics Eye Shadow Samples in Desert Rose, Pink Champagne & Silk: I'm so glad that I tried samples from this company because I've fallen in love with a few of them, and they're so pigmented. I didn't like loose shadow until Cheeky came into my life. Desert Rose was my favourite all over the lid colour and one that I'm definitely going to purchase the full size of. Silk is THE perfect highlight shade and I'm also going to purchase the full size at some point. Pink Champagne was my least favourite of the three because of the chunky glitter in it. I'd apply it on my brow bone and inner corner, and end up with sparkles all over my face.

The All Natural Face Shadow Sample in Creme Brulee - This sample came in a little bag, so I emptied it into the Silk container (which I actually finished up last month). Creme Brulee is a beautiful light creamy nude/brown colour with a nice sheen to it. Great description huh? I used it on days where I didn't want to look like I was wearing makeup because the shade sort of blends in with my skin tone. While it's beautiful, I wasn't blown away by it and won't be picking up the full size.

Randoms

Pukka Cleanse Tea - This is my second box of this tea and I think I've decided that I don't like it. It's not horrible and I still love Pukka's other teas, but I'm just not a fan of fennel. I will not be repurchasing.

Udo's Choice Super 8 Plus Probiotic - I go through these bottles way too fast, I finished it at the beginning of the month. I stopped taking probiotics for a couple of weeks and noticed a huge difference in the way my tummy felt. It was bloated and hurt, which I thought was odd because I eat fairly well. I'm back on them, a different brand, and feel much better again! I may repurchase these again but I'm going to experiment with other brands a little.

Things I'm Tossing

Nature's Gate Glow Lotion - I picked this up a couple of years ago, in the USA. I really haven't used it all that much because of the strong self tanner scent. When I did use it, I used it on my legs and it gave them a nice tanned glow. The lotion is white, which makes it super easy to cause streaking and there were times when I had patches of orange. I'm tossing it because it's probably expired and I never use it.

Dr. Alkaitis Day Creme- review here - I used this while I was in school, just to use up, but I don't enjoy it at all. I find it's a little heavy and the scent is not favourable. There's a tad bit left which I'm just going to toss.

Tarte Park Avenue Princess Bronzer Mini - I got this a few years ago, used it all of twice, and it's been sitting in my drawer ever since. It's a shimmery, very gold, bronzer that I didn't like the look of on my skin. It's old, it's being tossed.

Done! What did you finish up this month?

New Love! - Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Shell Shock & Arabian Knights Review

A few months back, my amazingly wonderful boyfriend bought me not one, but TWO Ilia lip conditioners from Fresh Faced. As a known balm and gloss addict, I thought these would be a great transition into the world of lipstick. These tinted lip conditioners come in several beautiful shades and are a fantastic combination of balm, gloss, and lipstick. Beautiful shades you say? Oh yes lovely readers, beautiful shades!

Ilia was created by a Canadian (Vancouver) born, Sasha Plavsic. Sasha started in the design world and from there, developed a love for Branding and Marketing. Having had the opportunity to work alongside different fashion brands, she quickly learned how to grow a brand and decided to start her own. It wasn't until she returned home and went through her makeup bag, that she "discover[ed] that organic makeup needed its own “re-branding”, new contemporary colours, better packaging and product performance." Her mother played a huge part in this as well because of her belief in the power of clean, natural, and organic products and food.

Description: ILIA Tinted Lip Conditioner combines organic ingredients to soothe and condition the lips. Each shade carries a sheer touch of color that increases in intensity when applied liberally. Mix with other ILIA colors to create your own personalized shade.

Arabian Knights offers a fantasy of mystery and seduction. The deep tones of violet, and burgundy melt together forming a beautiful berry stain. An ideal shade, easily carried from day to night.

This is hands down my favourite colour EVER, of any lip product (natural or chemical filled), that I've ever used. Bold statement, but it's true. I love how nourishing it is to my lips while still providing fantastic colour payoff. It can be applied sheer for a beautiful just bitten berry lip or built up for a bolder berry. I like to wear mine with a little gloss over top just because the gloss addict inside tells me to. This shade is well loved and it's one I think everyone should have in their collection.

Arabian Knights

Arabian Knights

A soft, bright pop of color to the lips with Shell Shock! This warm weather favorite is a great introductory shade to those who may shy away from our bolder brights. Pairs beautifully when layered with Dizzy

I can totally see how this would be a warm weather favourite! It's a beautiful light, sheer coral shade that goes with any look. The colour is by no means intense, so if you want to get into corals but unsure of how it may look on you, this would be a great shade to start with. I like wearing mine with a little gloss over top (surprising huh?) or mixing it with my Honeybee Gardens lipstick in Valentine. I do find the formula of this shade a bit different than AK. It doesn't apply as smoothly and almost balls up, it's weird. I have to actually pat my lips, after applying, to smooth it out. I'm not sure if that's just this particular shade or the batch that I got, but it's something to keep in mind.

Shell Shock

Shell Shock

Out of these two, Arabian Knights is definitely my favourite and one that I would repurchase. Both shades wear fairly well, especially when layered with a gloss over top, but they're not lipsticks or stains so don't expect all day wear. They're easy to apply and because they're sheer, they're ideal for the on the go when no mirror is available. The packaging is chic and elegant, a perfect example of less being more. I'm really impressed with the quality of this brand and already have my eye on a few other items. What I love most about Ilia's lip products is that they have on trend shades. No more settling for an "it's alright" or frosted lip colour, ladies!

Retails for $24 CAN. For retailers, check out Ilia.

Sappho Undo & Neutrality Concealer Review

Back in April, when I went to the Green Living Show, I had the opportunity to meet the wonderful JoAnn Fowler (Founder & CEO of Sappho Cosmetics). I can't say enough good things about her. She's sweet, funny, sassy, personable, passionate, smart, and naturally beautiful. I swear I wasn't paid to say any of that! She wasn't even wearing makeup that day, not that she needs it, and still looked great. She was kind enough to send me a bunch of stuff to try out and I will be doing reviews in bits, instead of all at once.

JoAnn is a Canadian born makeup artist that has been in the business since 1989. She works in both film and TV, and when I met her at the show she was working on the TV show Arrow (which my boyfriend and I both watch). JoAnn started her makeup line with a need for clean, natural ingredients that are not only good for the skin but also versatile for daily wear and great for use in photos, TV and film. Her formulations "surpass the European Union's standards for safer cosmetics", which takes the guess work out of hunting for clean makeup. I mean, the ingredients are incredible.

Review time!

I feel as though beauty lovers are always on the hunt for the best concealer and we all have a preference for specific textures. For example, I love a liquid, water-like textured concealer. I find it works best at not caking and clings less to dehydrates/dry patches. Some people love a cream or creme or mousse textured concealer, to each their own. The Sappho concealer has a creamy texture, which definitely scared me at first.  So texture, textured, textures, I wonder how many more times I'll use those words.

Description of Undo (yellow): This mineral concealer with a light yellow base is good for counteracting redness on skin. Made with almond oil, it moves with the skin, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles. Incredible for pale skins or those who favour the winter colour scheme. Gluten and dimethicone free. Not vegan. (Beeswax)

Description of Neutrality (neutral): The best of the best concealer for anyone with a medium to light skin tone. Preserved with essential oils, this concealer moves with the skin. It's our biggest seller! Not vegan.

These are great! I put my hesitation aside and gave them a go, now I reach for them daily. I sometimes use Undo, sometimes Neutrality, sometimes both together, depends how adventurous I feel that day. Undo is an obvious yellow based concealer while Neutrality is, well, neutral. I would even say it leans a little more on the peachy pink side. The coverage is definitely buildable with both. The fact that they're so small can be a pro and a con; pro because they're so, so easy to travel with and take up little to no space, and con because they're $27 CAN for a little 5g jar. Mind you, the ingredients are so pure that I'm not sure a larger jar would make sense. It would probably go bad before being all used up. I have tried using the neutral shade for under my eyes, and it works really well at concealing my blue/purple veins. While the coverage is great, it does crease rather quickly. Creases less when I set it with a powder though. It's bound to happen, nothing a little finger tap can't fix. They also can look a little cakey on dry patches, but that tends to happen to me with any creamy textured (there we go again with that word) concealer or foundation that I use. They both blend out really nicely with a brush and with my fingers, I'm sure a damp sponge would work as well. As for wear time, if my skin hates me and has several blemishes then a touch up is required mid-day. On days when my skin is pretty good and only has minor redness/imperfections to be covered, it lasts all day (6-7 hours). I take off my makeup asap, so I'm not sure if it would last even longer. While Undo and Neutrality are in the "high end" price range, a little does go a long way and they outperformed my expectations. I prefer Neutrality to Undo, only because it can be used under my eyes as well as all over my face, so that is the shade that I would purchase when I run out and recommend most.

Both retail for $27 CAN for 5g jars. Can be purchased through Sappho Cosmetics and a bunch of other retailers across Canada.

Which concealer shade would you be interested in trying most?

I applied too thick a layer of Neutrality & didn't blend them out completely so that you could actually see them still

Badger Aloe Vera SPF 15 Review

A few months ago, I won another Noah's Natural Foods Facebook giveaway. The giveaway was this Badger SPF 15, which I was so excited to win because I really wanted to try their sunscreens. I've heard nothing but rave reviews and have loved every Badger product that I have of tried thus far. Well, ladies and gents, this is another product from Badger that doesn't disappoint....entirely.

Description: Safe, Effective & Responsible. After years of research, formulating, and testing, we’re pleased to offer our mineral sunscreen lotions that meet our high standards for safety and efficacy. Badger's new Aloe Vera Mineral Sunscreen Lotion follows in the healthy tradition of our original sunscreens by using only the safest, purest ingredients. It features a light, moisturizing, USDA Certified Organic Aloe Vera lotion base that is perfect for daily use on face and body. Like all of Badger's sunscreens it offers broad spectrum protection using only non-nano Zinc Oxide. This is a good option for those who found our original mineral sunscreen creams too heavy for everyday use.
  • Non-Comedogenic Mineral Sunscreen Lotion
  • No Added Scent - Contains Organic Ingredients
  • Broad Spectrum protection from UVA & UVB rays using the mineral Zinc Oxide - NO Oxybenzone, Octisalate, Octinoxate, Avobenzone, or added Vitamin A.
  • Light, nearly invisible lotion base rich in Certified Organic ingredients.
  • BPA & phthalate-free tube from 40% PCR recycled #2 plastic.
  • Formulated and developed for everyday use on face & body, alone or under makeup.
First off, the packaging is a super cute designed squeeze tube that's travel friendly. Aren't all of Badger's products adorably packaged? Not much else to say there. Although I am pleased with this sunscreen, I do have a few minor negatives that I'm going to start with and follow with a positive. Try and keep up with this (probably) confusing review. CON: It's only SPF 15. I wear mineral makeup anyway, which offers additional sun protection, but I would have loved a higher SPF. PRO: They do have an SPF 30 of the same aloe based SPF and in their defence, I won this so it's not their fault. CON: It has a weird unscented scent/I don't know scent which I seem to be the only one who understands what that means. PRO: It's perfect for those who are sensitive to scents and it doesn't linger all day. CON: It does leave a very slight white cast on my face and if I'm dry, it clings to the dry patches. I also find that to avoid a white cast, I have to apply the sunscreen in sections which is pretty time consuming. PRO: It's not as bad a white cast as some other sunscreens. It can definitely be fixed with some powder. I just wonder if the SPF 30 version will create even more of a white cast.  This sunscreen is very creamy yet blends fairly well in general. Am I contradicting myself? Yes, read on. I have used it on my arms and decollete and found that it left no white cast, probably because I rub a little harder in those areas than I do my face. While it doesn't break me out and does work well under makeup, it's not quite as lovely on the face as the DeVita Facial SPF. Sorry Badger, but it's so hard to beat a gel-like textured sunscreen. All in all, I wouldn't purchase their SPF 15 (because I prefer 30) but would love to and would likely purchase one of their SPF 30 sunscreens for use on my body. Perhaps a kids vanilla tangerine dream? I'm a kid at heart, what can I say! I do recommend trying out their sunscreens, if you haven't already, and if you prefer SPF 15 then this is a good choice for you.

Retails for approx. $19.99 CAN for 87ml. You can check out the Badger website to order or to find out where to purchase, but it's pretty much sold in every health food store.

What is your favourite Badger sunscreen?

My hand looks like a little gnomes hand here, not sure what happened lol

#OlieLove - Olie Biologique Power Trip Trio Review

A little while ago, I was super excited to get sent this amazing little trio from Olie Biologique.  I have sensitive, acne prone (hormone related) combination skin and when it starts acting up, I go back to my Sea Buckthorn and Tamanu oil mix.  Based on the blends, I had already decided what would and wouldn't work for my skin, or so I thought. When I finally opened up the box and started using these blends, I was instantly in love.

Olie was founded by Linda Alixe Thompson, who to my surprise is a Canadian! Oh Canada! Nothing wrong with being proud right? Right. What's great about Olie, aside from their Canadian founder,  is that their oils are pure and free of any nasties like parabens, artificial fragrances, and anything bad really. Each oil is selected based on how it benefits the skin whether it be calms irritations, soothes, heals, nourishes, restores, and/or hugs your skin with love (I added in this cheesy bit myself). All of their oils absorb quickly and provide maximum results with their less is more (more potent) approach. You've done Canada proud Linda!

To the review we go..

Trio Description: Pure. Potent. Luxurious. This travel trio will have your skin ready for anything your adventures can throw at it. Refillable travel size 5ml vials go anywhere you do. Love one, but haven’t tried the others yet? Now’s your chance! Contains: 004 Huile Moderne Hydrating Oil, 005 Huile Radicale Rejuvenating Oil, & 006 Huile Claire Calming Face Oil.
Retails for $32.50 USD on Olie Biologique.

I had already started using 004 & 006 before taking this picture

004 Huile Moderne Hydrating Oil: The Modern Moisturizer. Argan-rich, laced with rosehip oil and aromatic blends, this daily treatment is a silky skin-soothing hydrator with mood-lifting essential oils for men and women of all ages. 5 ml (Travel Size). Full size retails for $68 USD for 30ml.

Ingredients: 100% USDA Certified Organic Argan Oil, Organic Rosehip Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Bergamot Oil, Neroli Oil & Frankincense Oil

I've tried Argan oil before and know that it doesn't work for my skin, sadly, as amazingly well as it does for most people. It makes my skin red, bumpy and just miserable. Call me selfish but, I didn't want to give this little gem away. What I decided to do was use it on my hair. Oh-em-gee, this stuff works wonders on it! I, first of all, love the masculine and somewhat nutty scent of this oil. It's extremely intoxicating, at least to me. I apply just a little less than half a pump to the ends of my hair while still wet and another little bit after it's fully dry, and it instantly revives and restores life to my chemically damaged hair. It also adds that beautiful aroma of the oil, however, it does fade throughout the day (the scent that is). It doesn't weigh down my fine, fairly straight hair at all. A little goes a very long way with this oil.

I wouldn't purchase the full size of this blend, only because it's a little steep to just use on my hair. I feel like it might go rancid before I get to finish the bottle because of the fact that I need so little. If I was able to use this on my skin and hair, then I'd definitely invest in the full size.

005 Huile Radicale Rejuvenating Oil: Nature’s Plumper and thirsty skin quencher. This overnight treatment oil is a radiance-boosting blend of 8 organic botanicals that helps to brighten dull skin, decrease lines and visibly improve firmness. 5 ml (Travel Size). Full size retails for $68 USD for 30ml.

Ingredients: Organic Camellia Oil, Organic Rosehip Oil, Organic Blackcurrant Seed Oil, Organic Evening Primrose Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Grapefruit Oil, Sandalwood, Rose Geranium Oil, Rose Bulgar Oil.

I was not expecting to love this blend, mainly because I don't enjoy the scent of rose, but man did I fall hard. It has a very beautiful, sophisticated rose scent that's not overpowering or sweet. Never did I think anything rose scented would be loved so much by me. Olie, how did you do it!? How!? This oil is so nourishing yet absorbs right into the skin within minutes. I apply it at night, before bed, and wake up to radiantly brighter and plumper skin. I haven't noticed any significant long term changes in the firmness of my skin or a decrease in lines, however, I can only imagine that it would take more time and more oil than what's in this little vial. Same as with the 004 blend, a little goes a very long way.

I would purchase the full size of this oil without a doubt. In fact, once I run out of the vial and finish up a couple of other oils, I'm going to.

NEW 006 Huile Claire Calming Face Oil: The Soothsayer for those stressed-out skin moments. This infusion of lavender and chamomile helps to reduce redness, calm sensitivities and shield skin from the harshness of weather. 5 ml (Travel Size). Full size retails for $68 USD for 30ml.

Ingredients: Organic Camellia Oil, Organic Apricot Oil, Organic Calendula Oil, Organic Marula Oil, Organic Evening Primrose Oil, Natural Vitamin E, Roman Chamomile Oil, Lavender Oil
This was the blend that I most wanted to try and ended up liking least. It's not the performance of the oil that turns me off, but the strong lingering chamomile scent. I do love how this oil soothes and calms my skin, especially after having daily facials or any sort of peel. If my skin is irritated or red at all, especially on my cheeks, I apply about half a pump and it instantly soothes and calms down the redness within a few minutes. I think this oil would be really great during the colder months when skin seems to get even more irritated from the cold, I may hang on to what's left of it until fall. Just to see how well it works then. Once again, a little goes a long way.

If the chamomile scent wasn't so strong, then I'd definitely purchase the full size of this blend.

Final Thoughts: This set is fantastic and well worth the investment. The quality of the oils are outstanding, they're organic and luxurious, they produce results, the vials are refillable which means you can fill all three with your favourite Olie blend(s) to travel with, they sink into the hair and skin with ease, and they're just beautiful blends. Go ahead, pamper yourself girl!

*This set was provided for review consideration. If you follow my blog, you know that I tell it like it is (good or bad). I really did fall in love with this Trio set. I am not being paid or compensated to say anything good about the products or company.

Disappointed: The Body Deli Firming Flax Eye Cream Review

Back in March, I ordered a couple of things from Saffron Rouge. One of them being this very promising eye cream which a few of you were interested in knowing about. I love a good eye cream, I mean, we show the first signs of aging around our eyes. Seeing as I don't use an anti-aging face cream or anything, it's important for me to invest in a good eye cream. I do have fine lines around my eyes and I notice when I wake up, from having my face in the pillow, the lines take even longer to disappear than I remember. Ahh getting old, gotta love it!

Description: High levels of phospholipid rich Lecithin fortifies the sensitive tissue, firming omega fatty acid rich flax seed oil, carrot and pomegranate supply abundant levels of nutrients to feed the skin. See fine lines and wrinkles begin to diminish with resveratrol red wine extract and tissue strengthening lecithin. Omega-3 essential fatty acids also provide the eye area with the correct balance of nutrients and moisture. Look years younger with regular use.

The anticipation is killing you isn't it? I'm a little disappointed in this eye cream. Don't you just hate when there's so much hype over a brand or product and it doesn't work for you? The ingredients are fantastic and the size of this mini is great considering you only need a tiny amount for both eyes, but I don't find it delivers on it's promises. I have been using it faithfully for over a month and see no difference in the appearance of my fine lines whatsoever. It's very light in texture, yet still very hydrating. So much so that I think it's given me milia. It does absorb and work well underneath makeup/concealer, and it's a great little size to travel with but it's not for me. I won't be purchasing the full size.

Retails for approx. $20 CAN for 5ml (mini) and $55.25 for 30ml (full size) on Saffron Rouge.

Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea Facial Mask Review

I have a real soft spot for Pangea products, they're wonderful and work well. After having a horrible reaction to their eye cream, I was extremely worried to try anything else from the line, but something told me to give their discovery kit a try. So glad I did because their cleanser is my absolutely favourite and their toners are fantastic. Is it a shock that I've fallen in love with their mask as well? Probably not.

Description:  Our multi-purpose mask relies on nothing but nature to provide you with the best in beauty. Green and white clays work together to help restore, balance, cleanse, and detoxify; four sea vegetables re-mineralize, hydrate, and oxygenate cells; sugarcane serves to exfoliate, unclog pores, and stimulate the production of elastin and collagen; acai and goji berry extracts lend their extraordinary super-powers as antioxidants, functioning as regenerative “food” for the skin; jojoba and sunflower seed oils nourish and moisturize; three teas are employed in both whole leaf and extract forms to ensure maximum potency for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and energizing effects; and a harmonious blend of extremely concentrated herbal extracts and essential oils further nurture the skin and senses. Using this mask just once will noticeably improve the quality, tone, and texture of your skin – you’ll be amazed at how soft, glowing, and radiant your skin will be.

This mask is even better than I remember. The squeeze tube that it comes in is ideal for travel, dispensing the right about of product, and it looks cute. Can I get a woot woot for basic cute packaging? Woot woot! What's important to note about the packaging is that the plastic cap closes realllllly tightly preventing the possibility of a spill/leak. Well, I guess there's always a possibility but it's less likely to happen. Now, for the actual mask; it's a chunky and gritty textured mask (see below) that can be a tad messy to apply and wash off. It tingles a little and if it's put too close to the eyes, it'll likely make them water. I apply a thin layer on my face and neck, let sit for 10-15 min, wet my fingers and massage for a gentle exfoliation, and then wash off. Once removed, my skin is left exactly how they said it would be..."soft, glowing and radiant". I find it really evens out my skin tone, texture, and helps reduce any redness that I may have. It's a beautiful mask, honestly. The only con is the price, it's about $40 CAN for 4oz. I purchased it when Saffron Rouge was having a sale and clearing out their Pangea stock for, I think, $24 CAN.Since I only use it once a week, it is a mask that I would consider repurchasing at full price.

Retails for approx. $40 CAN for 4oz. Can be purchased at some health food stores, Well.ca, and Pangea Organics/Pangea Organics Canada.

Have you ever tried this mask or any other Pangea products?

May 2013 Faves!

I skipped out on doing an April faves post because I was finishing up some products and really had nothing exciting or new worth mentioning. This month, however, I have a few honourable mentions.

DIY Clay mask - I do have a post on my mask concoction, however, I've been changing it up a bit. Instead of using toner to mix the clays and honey, I sometimes used (and still use) Raw ACV (apple cider vinegar) and pass on the neem. Either way, I was using this mask at least 3 times a week to help draw out impurities from the heavy, HD and waterproof makeup that we were using in the makeup course I took.

Honey - With all the makeup and washing my face so frequently last month, I loved applying honey every other morning on my face and just leaving it on for 10 - 30 minutes.

Weleda Pomegranate Regenerating Body Oil - review here - Such a beautiful, beautiful oil! It smells lovely, feels lovely, hydrates lovely, it's just lovely and I've been really enjoying it.

Bee 23 Hotty Body Balm - review here - I stand by my bees knees comment, it's amazing. I was using the Weleda body oil all over, but decided to use it on the bits that need firming and this balm everywhere else. Moisturizes like a dream!

Weleda Skin Food - review here - I carry this in my bag at all times, in case you couldn't tell by how banged up it looks. Wonderful for dry patches on your body and face. A definite love and must have of mine.

Pure+Simple Face Colour in Glow - review here - Shocking right? Love this blush so, so much. If you follow me on Twitter, then you know mine actually shattered. P+S were kind enough to send me a new one but, I've been using my broken one because there's no way I'm tossing that baby out.

Ilia Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights - review to come - I do have a review coming, promise! This is the most beautiful and perfect berry shade. I reached for it all of May..well..since I got it really!

Gabriel Brow Pencil in Russet - review to come - This is my first natural brow pencil and it's great. My brows are pretty dark but I hate using a dark brown pencil because I don't want them to appear darker, just fuller. This taupe-ish shade is perfect and so natural looking.

Olie Biologique 004 Hydrating Oil - review to come - I got sent this to try out and while it's basically Argan Oil, which I can't use on my face, it has been amazing in my hair. I apply it on dry hair to smooth away any frizz and keep my ends conditioned. Oh and it smells lovely!

What did you love in May?

New Love!: Earthpaste Amazingly Natural Toothpaste Review + Giveaway (CLOSED)

One of the best parts of my day (besides removing restrictive clothing, cuddling my dog, washing my face and crawling into bed) is brushing my teeth. I love everything about it; removing the gritty texture, freshening my breath, and having a clean mouth. I first learned about Earthpaste from Caitie. She did a fantastic review (which you should check out) in January and also tied in the cons of glycerin in toothpaste. Since then, I've not only stopped using toothpaste with glycerin but, have also been compelled to try Earthpaste. Imagine my excitement when I finally found it at the Big Carrot!

Description: Earthpaste began because we couldn’t find a natural toothpaste we loved for our families. We wanted a toothpaste that was as natural as possible, so we started with hydrated Redmond Clay and added Xylitol, essential oils, and Real Salt. And that’s it. Earthpaste is amazingly natural toothpaste.

Does it get any better than that?! I don't think so. I'm a big fan of DIY projects but, making my own toothpaste is not something that I want to do. I adore how clean my teeth feel after using this toothpaste, seriously, it's fantastic. I wasn't expecting the peppermint flavour to be as bold and my breath (and mouth) to feel as fresh as it does when after brushing with it. If you're used to a little foaming action when you brush, I warn you, you won't find any foaming here. It's literally mud that gently cleanses your teeth and melts away with water. Normally, I wouldn't like that however, after brushing my teeth for 2 weeks with just water and a toothbrush, I don't mind it at all. Also, I think I've mentioned that I can't use tea tree. Weird thing is that I can't apply it on my skin, but I'm totally fine with it in my toothpaste. Earthpaste is hands down my new favourite toothpaste and I will forever buy it.

Retails for approx. $6 - $7 CAN for 4oz. Can be purchased from Big Carrot, Truly Organic FoodsNature's EmporiumVitacost, iherb, Purely Natural Cosmetics (UK), Ph Wisdom and Earthpaste or Redmond Trading.

That's it?! Yes!!
